A unique shade structure 15m x 7m was designed and built over playground equipment in a busy shopping mall in Rockdale in Sydney for the local Council. The structure needed to;
a. be fire retardant shade cloth
b. provide 94% shading consistent with the Cancer Council sun protection guidelines and
c. be a design which discouraged birds from roosting.
The shade structure adds to the fabric of community life in the heart of Rockdale. The buzzing atmosphere of this retail precinct is enhanced with the addition of this unique playground shade structure in the mall. Parents can watch their children play while enjoying coffee in a nearby cafe.
The structure is graceful in shape, understated in its use of metallic shade cloth colours but sympathetic to the colours in the adjoining streetscape and buildings.
