Taronga Zoo – Gungs Place

Gung is a lively 4,000kg 10 year old Asian bull elephant living at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo. He was unsettled after being moved away from the herd and into his own enclosure. The shade structure provides shade and a is a place to hang his toys.

The Claw Umbrella structure is 18m x 6m x 8m high. Manoevering the 11m long, 2 tonne central mast post around the confined zoo grounds and through the high security gates of the elephant enclosure was a major challenge. This was achieved with care. A crane was also required to position the post into its concrete footing. the structure won a National Award.
